The location
Tours is a charming city on the banks of the Loire River and the historical capital of the Touraine. It is very lively all year round thanks to a large student population and a busy central district of café and shop-lined boulevards. In the heart of the Loire Valley, a region that has been listed by the Unesco as a World Heritage Site*, Tours is the nearest city to the exquisitely beautiful Renaissance Chateaux of Azay-le-Rideau, Chambord and Chenonceau, to name but a few. A region reputed also for its wines of exceptional quality: Vouvray and Sancerre.
The architectural heritage, the museums, theatre, and numerous cultural events, justify Tours' reputation as the cultural centre of this region of France – as well as the capital city of the art of living and a gourmet’s paradise.
At the heart of a ‘star’ shaped communications network, Tours is one hour by train to Paris and its airports, with very easy access to most large French towns; its airport ‘Tours Val de Loire’ is close to the city and has daily flights to London and good connections to many European cities.
Our opinion:
An opportunity to invest in the very centre of a major French city of historical importance. The well-indexed rental income is guaranteed by one of the largest management companies in France.
*UNESCO World Heritage listing:
The Loire Valley is an outstanding cultural landscape of great beauty, containing historic towns and villages, great architectural monuments (the châteaux), and cultivated lands formed by many centuries of interaction between the population and the physical environment, primarily the river Loire itself.
Justification for Inscription:
Criterion (i): The Loire Valley is noteworthy for the quality of its architectural heritage in historic towns such as Blois, Chinon, Orléans, Saumur, and Tours, but in particular in its world-famous castles, such as the Château de Chambord, Azay-le-Rideau. Criterion (ii): The Loire Valley is an outstanding cultural landscape along a major river which bears witness to an interchange of human values and a harmonious development of interactions between human beings and their environment over two millennia. Criterion (iv): The landscape of the Loire Valley, and more particularly its many cultural monuments, illustrate to an exceptional degree the ideals of the Renaissance and the Age of the Enlightenment on western European thought and design.
