The property:
This new leaseback and residential development will consist of 212 semi-detached Bastides (country villas) in 7 clusters, surrounding a central village square. There are views over the Mont Ventoux to the north, the Dentelles de Montmirail to the west, and the development is surrounded by vineyards and woodland, 500 m (10 minutes walk) from the centre of Aubignan village.
There will be a large aqua-park area with three swimming pools, a bar and a sun deck, a fitness centre and a common room where activities are organised during peak season. The wooded land, which is part of the secured property, will have a health run.
Across the main road leading to Aubignan is the Canal de Carpentras, a small canal now no longer in use, leading to the nearby Canal du Midi along an 11 km pathway that can be followed on foot or bicycle.
The area:
Aubignan, a small but lively village in the heart of the famous Côtes du Rhône wine territory (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Beaumes de Venise, Gigondas), is partly enclosed by 14th century ramparts. The ancient village has kept a number of historic remains and monuments and is particularly known for its interesting semi Gothic, semi Romanesque church. A quiet, typical little village where time seems to have come to a standstill, yet close the lively market town of Carpentras ( 5 km), Aubignan is surrounded by some very beautiful country properties set amidst lavender and vineyards.
Aubignan has a busy shopping street lined with shops, bars and restaurants. There is a weekly market and the tourism office organises a number of events revolving around the local production of wine - Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Ventoux. Of course, every neighbouring village has its own production and folklore. Throughout the year art exhibitions, concerts and folkloric events are organised for the benefit of the locals, the many tourists and part-time residents. Orange (20 km) is renowned for its opera festival (Les Chorégies d’Orange), which takes place during July and August.
The farmers of the Ventoux plains produce a wide variety of summer fruit and vegetables, namely peaches, melons, pears, apricots, cherries and grapes - of course! The local markets are laden with mouth-watering produce and other local specialities such as honey, lavender, pottery and the famous Carpentras truffle - the Black Diamond at 700 EUR a kilo. The commerce of fresh truffles early in the morning at the Carpentras market is an event in itself!
During the summer months, it is possible to do your own Tour de France and drive up to the windy summit (1909 m) of the Mont Ventoux.
A short drive to the south will take you to the Languedoc beaches and the Camargue region; to the east is the national Luberon park with its white water sports activities, climbing, hiking etc. A little further you will come the Alpes de Haute Provence, with their ski resorts and cities such as Gap and Sisteron; west will take you into the Languedoc and the cities of Nîmes and Montpellier.
