26/ Signing the title deed by proxy

It is possible to come to France to sign the title deed and that is preferable, if at all possible. An interpreter will be in the notaire’s office to help you with translation as this is compulsory by French law. If you cannot come to France, then it is usually possible to sign the deed by proxy by giving the French notaire the power to sign your deed on your behalf. For this, you will have to sign a “procuration”(Power of Attorney) in the presence of a notary public and then send or take your documents to the Dept. of Foreign Affairs for the now compulsory “Apostille”.
